3 hour apron

I decided to make the apron yesterday...took me all afternoon even using the sewing machine to try to speed the process up. Half the problem was the crinkle cotton made it all really tricky to cut accurately.
I did my best folding it in half then half again to get it equal rather than wonkey on the corners. Then I cut out the hole for the neckline.

I then thought I'd like to add a peter pan collar. So used some scraps of blue and left over interfacing.
It didn't go quite according to plan. I couldn't figure out how to make the collar sit right.
Then sewed up the sides. Ta da!

  1. Nice! But how are you supposed to wear it, where does it go? In my world an apron goes around your waist but this one seems to go over your shoulders. But, there are aprons like that here too. People in Carl Larsson's old paintings had aprons like that.

  2. The apron is like a tunic it goes over your head so you don't have to fuss with straps to tie.

  3. It's called a tabbard, and yours looks good.

Collars are tricky, and I have often got in a tizzy over them. One thing I have found is using the collars from dress patterns, and following the instructions, gets me the results I was looking for.

I have a boxful of old patterns, and have often used bits such as sleeves, collars, etc., to achieve the look I was after...that I could never get right on my own.

  4. Thanks. I think if I make another one I'll just bias bind the edges and maybe just do a 'bow' as decoration.
